Royal Wharf: The Longest Pier in London

Royal Wharf Pier, the longest pier in London, is a good example of our work with Beckett Rankine on the MBNA Thames Clipper river bus network.

Houlder hydrodynamicists and naval architects assisted with the initial concept design studies required to demonstrate the feasibility of the new infrastructure in the Silvertown area of London.

This new neighbourhood comprises 3,385 riverside properties housing around 10,000 residents and stands within the £3.5bn Royal Docks regeneration area. Due to open soon, the Royal Wharf pier replaces a derelict jetty at the same spot. Its length and novel angular design means it will no doubt become a tourist favourite too.

“Charting a ‘solo’ course through this swirl of uncertainty is close to impossible. That’s why we’re often asked by clients to build their knowledge, evaluate their challenges and assess their options. We work closely with research funds and clean-tech providers by bringing decades of industry experience to bear. Our position is independent, technical ‘client friend’ for the decarbonising decades ahead.”
