Manannan – Passenger Access System

Realise FOAK Concepts

Houlder enabled IoMSPC's Manannan to access Liverpool's new terminal across the full tidal range with a bespoke aluminium platform, avoiding costly hull modifications.

Reaching New Heights in Tidal Range Access

Tidal constraints limit ferry operations. IoMSPC faced this at Liverpool's new terminal.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company needed Manannan to align with the new Passenger Access System over more tidal range. This required bridge visibility and structural integrity.

Houlder surveyed the vessel during its winter refit. We created a 3D model to explore designs. Our solution? An aluminium platform with stair access and fold-down handrails for visibility.

We also evaluated structural impacts of the new berth. Our analysis confirmed the vessel's suitability for expected loads, avoiding hull modifications.

The result?

Manannan now offers passenger access across the full tidal range. No hull modifications. Just smart design. A tailored solution. Precisely executed.

This project highlights the importance of expert collaboration in maritime engineering. By tackling complex challenges, we improve service reliability and operational efficiency.
