Rampion Offshore Wind – Innovative Pile Restraint Arms

Shrewd Investment

Rampion Offshore Wind faced pile placement challenges, but Houlder ensured stable foundations with innovative Pile Restraint Arms, enhancing safety and efficiency in offshore wind installations..

Anchoring the Future of Offshore Wind

In offshore wind, stability is everything. Environmental forces challenge every installation.

Rampion Offshore Wind needed precise pile placement for safety and efficiency.

Houlder delivered. We designed and installed a second pair of 256-tonne Pile Restraint Arms for Rampion. These arms keep foundation piles vertical as they're driven into the seabed.

Our arms provide horizontal restraint against environmental forces. They now operate on Swire Blue Ocean's Pacific Orca, complementing an existing set on MPI Offshore's Discovery vessel.

Houlder also redesigned the vessel attachment and engineered a new grillage support structure. Positioned on the main deck, it requires no underdeck strengthening. This design allows rapid mobilisation and demobilisation — much assembly and testing occurs quayside, saving time at sea.

The result?

Reliable installation. Enhanced efficiency. A collaborative approach combining safety with speed.

As wind farms move further offshore, demands grow. But with strategic partnerships and inventive engineering, the industry can expand into deeper waters. A testament to collaboration and ingenuity.
