Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS) required a compliant solution to transport the new TN Eagle spent fuel flask on its INF-class vessels - a requirement which introduced new geometric constraints, loads and interface challenges against an existing fleet.
Safe introduction of next-generation nuclear fuel transport
Houlder defined and delivered a viable carriage solution from feasibility through to full-scale validation.
We established the technical basis for safe transport, resolving clearance, structural and stability constraints and supporting decision-making on vessel suitability. This progressed into detailed design of an Adapter Plate system interfacing the Orano Marine Transport Frame with existing vessel arrangements, including tolerance definition to ensure reliable fit-up and secure sea fastening.
The solution was taken through approval with NTS, Class and Regulators, and proven through successful onboard test fitment.
Houlder further enhanced operability by developing an alignment tool to reduce installation effort and improve repeatability during deck configuration.
