Houlder drive marine design innovation with new technical role

Houlder has announced that Mike Simpson is to take a new Technical Director position within its Marine Design Consultancy business. The new role reflects the increasing scale and complexity of the projects undertaken by the businesses’ Marine Design teams. These include the UK’s first dual fuel LNG and the new G-class electric hybrid Isle of Wight ferry alongside large and complex wind farm installation jack ups and small to mid-scale LNG bunkering infrastructure.

Project Directors Mark Beck, Julian Mason and Jonathan Strachan will continue to lead Marine Design Consultancy teams, while Mike’s unrivalled experience will support new technical developments and innovation.

Rupert Hare, Houlder’s CEO commented “Houlder can justifiably claim to be one of the UK’s leading ship designer’s thanks in no small part to Mike Simpson’s knowledge and judgement. His new role gives us additional engineering and design leadership and, in particular, enables clients requiring novel and ingenious solutions to benefit from his experience and counsel.”

“Charting a ‘solo’ course through this swirl of uncertainty is close to impossible. That’s why we’re often asked by clients to build their knowledge, evaluate their challenges and assess their options. We work closely with research funds and clean-tech providers by bringing decades of industry experience to bear. Our position is independent, technical ‘client friend’ for the decarbonising decades ahead.”
