Offshore systems

Houlder engineers have developed handling systems for a number of applications.

Flexlay Systems
When the Lochnager and K3000 were converted to lay flexible pipe on extended contracts on the Brazilian oilfields, the owner, DSND Consub, turned to Houlder to develop the pipe lay systems. Each installation comprises an elevated lay deck supporting a system of tensioners, diverters, cranes and sheaves to enable the flexible pipe to be drawn from the carousel in the hold and lowered to the seabed over the stern.

Pipe Hold Handling System
To overcome the problems of handling a wide range of pipe diameters, with or without coatings from the ship hold to the deck firing line, Houlder developed a gantry-based system and a densely packed cellular hold stowage. The system enables the hold to be loaded with 800 tonnes of pipe in under eight hours whilst still providing safe and efficient handling offshore.
