Houlder has worked for the Ministry of Defence for many years, primarily working on deck handling systems and diving support systems for support ships, frigates, aircraft carriers, mine sweepers, and destroyers. In 2000, we won our biggest ever MoD contract through our membership of the AWSR consortium which was announced as preferred bidder for the 20 year Strategic Sealift Service.

Our defence expertise now ranges from the design and construction supervision of six RoRo ships for the Strategic Sealift Service to the maintenance and upgrade of recompression chambers for Royal Navy divers, PAP handling systems for Hunt class minesweepers, to the supply of a range of cranes, gantries and davits.

For all of these projects, we have undertaken the design and project supervision in-house working closely with our MoD clients as part of their trusted team. Our ability to meet tight deadlines – including designing, building and installing four new LCVP davits for HMS Ocean in eight months so that it could take part in Operation Swift Sword – has helped to build a special relationship with our defence clients who know that we can be relied upon to deliver.
