Supporting the Royal Fleet Auxillary's Replenishment at Sea (RAS) Capability
Acquisition Support, Equipment Specification, Integration Design, Trials and Set to work
Cammell Laird Shipyard engaged Houlder to specify, procure, support the installation, commission and provide training for a 3 tonne SWL fuel hose handling crane on small fleet tanker RFA Black Rover.
This is the latest example of our work with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and its prime contractors - following a similar project on the Black Rover’s sister ship, RFA Gold Rover.
The RFA small fleet tankers replenish warships of the Royal Navy with fuel oil, aviation fuel, lubricants, fresh water and stores whilst underway. They are capable of replenishing two warships simultaneously, steaming ahead with one on either side. Given their role, the tankers have stringent requirements for handling equipment including operability in both sub-arctic and tropical conditions and in severe sea states.
Houlder’s practical knowledge and technical expertise has ensured the right crane has been selected and successfully integrated in the ship’s hazardous zone area and with its onboard systems.
